Mountain Peak 2012

Soldiers set up tents on their FOB for Mountain Peak Field ExerciseI'm writing this blog post while participating in the 10th Mountain Division's largest field training exercise in many years. Thousands of Soldiers from several brigades are here training together in the woods near Fort Drum, NY.

I've been out here on Forward Operating Base (FOB) Commando, in the foothills of the Adirondack mountains of upstate New York for 8 days so far. Not very long, really, but enought to get into a work routine of planning operations, visiting Soldiers, and of course thinking about what we need for our National Training Center rotation later this fall and our eventual deployment to Afghanistan.

I'm reminded that in Kabbalah, the number "8" symbolizes spiritual perfection. Just as the natural world was created in 7 days, the eighth day is symbolic of rising above the purely physical. There are some opportunities out here to do just that!
